Work from Home Tips
Our Hosted Phones and Mobility Clients can be great tools, ESPECIALLY when working from home.
HOWEVER, IT IS IMPORTANT TO BE MINDFUL OF PREPARATION YOU MAY NEED TO MAKE IN ORDER FOR YOU TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL EXPERIENCE AT HOME.
It's most important to have the correct SIP-ALG setting in your Home Router. This can be a simple setting in many home routers, but unfortunately, it is usually set to be enabled by default. The hardest part will probably be figuring out what your router's password is to log into the router.
Once logged in, you would want to turn SIP ALG OFF. Look for settings to DISABLE SIP ALG or DISABLE SIP HELPER. You can consult your router manual (or Google) on how to turn then setting off on your specific router's make and model, and then simply restart your phone. This should fix many issues and help stabilize your performance.
You can find more SIP ALG Help here if needed.
Also, the Max Mobility Client on your cell phone still uses your wifi/cell data connection to transport the call, so it is susceptible to having issues with interference and/or a poor signal. Be aware of this when using the Max Mobility Client as you may have dropped or choppy calls under these circumstances.
Dobson hosted IP PBX desk phone(s) / Max Mobility Client requires a stable internet connection to function properly. Please keep in mind that:
You will need to update your 911 Address when moving your phone between locations. This can be done via your Quick-Portal interface under SET EMERGENCY LOCATION. This is important because in an emergency situation, using your work phone to call emergency service will show your last entered information. This is not automatically updated just because you move your phone from business to home and back to business.
Other devices on your home network using your bandwidth can affect the call quality.
Just because a connection works well for Netflix or web browsing, does not mean it will work for quality Voice Services, and can, again, result in dropped or choppy calls. There is no buffering live calls.
If you plan to take your Hosted IP PBX desk phone home with you, your desk phone must have a power source. More than likely, your desk phone at work is powered through the network by a PoE switch. If you take this phone home, you will need a power supply for it to work (or a PoE switch on your home network. Most home networks DO NOT have a PoE switch). Contact us to find out how you can get a power supply for your Hosted IP PBX desk phone.
